January Closet Refresh

I don't know about you guys, but there's something about January that makes me want to overhaul my closet and start the year fresh. I try to clean it out on a regular basis, but January is a great time to really sort through everything.

I literally pull everything out of my closet (you can do one section at a time so it's less overwhelming) and throw it on my bed. I then sort through it using the KonMari Method of only putting back what I LOVE and what fits amazing. No holding on to items I haven't worn in 6 months, or ones that I might wear if I lose weight.

I want to be able to pull anything out of my closet and love it!

Once you've hung everything back up in the closet that you love, it's time to deal with the piles on the bed. I have an easier time letting go of certain items I spent too much money on if I can sell them and recoup part of it.

*Items that I'm not attached to, or have had for a while I toss in bags for Goodwill or to donate to a Women's Shelter.

*Everything else is perfect for consignment, and there are several options depending on how much work you want to put into it and how much control you want.

1.

POSHMARK

This is your best option for earning the most $ for your items and having control over how much they sell for, but it is also the most work. You have to photograph each item, list it on the app with details and price, and when it sells you have to package it up and drop it in the mail. They do make it as easy as possible, so you can print out the prepaid label at home and you do not have to weigh the package or worry about that. You can also use free USPS priority mailers. Other than how time-consuming it is to list the items, it is a social app, so if you want to sell items it helps to share them daily, and you have to check in to answer questions and respond to offers.

*You earn 80% of the selling price

*You earn the most, but you have to put in the most work and store all of the items until they sell.

2.

THE REAL REAL

This is the best for luxury items and saving time on the selling process. They have a list of qualifying high-end designers, and you can request that someone comes to you to pick up the items if you live in a big city, or they will send you a prepaid label and consignment form and you can drop everything at Fedex for full-service help - they will provide a box and pack it up safely for you. They will process it, and in less than two weeks everything will be listed for sale. You can log in to your account to see all of the items and prices. It's a very popular site and items tend to sell fairly quickly.

*You earn 50% consignment on items selling under $200, but there are staggered earnings from there, and the more you sell the higher percentage you earn. You also earn higher percentages on certain high end purses and watches.

*They handle everything for you so all you have to do is send items in and you get paid when they sell. They also authenticate all items they sell. They keep items for a year on consignment.

*If you are new to The Real Real they give you a $25 credit when you sign up on the site. You can read my post about my favorite finds

3. LOCAL CONSIGNMENT SHOPS

These are great if you want the ease of The Real Real and do not have high-end items, or have a mix of high end and street brands and want to drop everything off at one spot. You get everything out of your house and do not have to do any work to sell them.

*You earn the lowest percentage with this method, usually 25% - 40%

*There are two types of women's consignment shops:

1. pay cash(25-30%) or credit(50%) for items: Buffalo Exchange & Crossroads Trading

Crossroads is my favorite and tend to accept the most items, and I always take credit there since they have amazing items.

2. traditional consignment where you get paid when items sell. usually 30%-45% payout once items sell.

*They usually keep items for 30-90 days and mark them down every 2 weeks.

I hope some of these tips help! It feels so good to clean out your closet and also earn cash towards buying new items! I'd love to hear your favorite tips for reselling clothes.
