Home office refresh
I've started spending a lot more time sewing custom cushions and re-upholstering furniture, and have been in desperate need for a sewing space. I've been using our dining table for my sewing, while my kids have dinner picnics every night on the floor 🤣
Our townhouse is barely over 1000sq ft, so finding an office space meant rearranging the whole house 🤷🏼♀️ Here are the before pictures of my kids play nook… which I took over - sorry kids!
I moved the storage cubes with half the toys to the kids room, which they love, and created a sewing area/ kids art area. Here's how the kids room turned out, which I love!
I've been searching for an extra long desk and didn't want to spend $500 on one, so I ended up building one, for a grand total of $90 🙌 and it fits my space perfectly!
I started with a large plywood board from Lowe's for only $20, which I had cut to size. I had an almost 6foot piece cut for my desk. I picked up two storage cubes for $30 each at Target, and my 3yr old helper assembled them with me. I then ended up having my husband help build an extra frame to go at the back of the desk behind the cubes for extra support. We had two 2x4s cut to size, and screwed them together to make a rectangle which we screwed into the table top. Instead of painting the wood I decided to cover it in a faux marble contact paper. I ordered it off Amazon and it was only $16! I stapled it under the board for a little extra security.
It's definitely a diy desk, but it's sturdy and perfect for my super heavy sewing machine. I would have loved a real marble slab on top, but it would have been scratched up instantly, using it as a sewing table. Now I don’t have to worry about cutting on the desk and my heavy machine.
I also re-upholstered an ottoman to use as my seat, switching out the grandma fabric for a fun velvet and linen Chevron print. I can’t seem to stop adding turquoise accents to the house! You can check out my custom upholstery projects here, and shop custom pillows here.
